Who We Are

The Edo State Office of the Accountant General serves as the financial nerve center of the state government, ensuring transparency, accountability, and efficiency in financial management. The Office of the Accountant General is an autonomous Department of the Ministry of Finance. It is the financial nerve center of the State Government and serves as a servicing unit to all other Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs).

The Office of the Accountant General is an autonomous Department of the Ministry of Finance. It is the financial nerve center of the State Government and serves as a servicing unit to all other Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs).

Before 1989, the Office of the Accountant–General was the Accounting Division of the Ministry of Finance. But by Circular Letter No. SGA.13/87/Vol.VI/613 of 16th December 1988, the Office of the Accountant–General was created. This complied with the directives conveyed in Letter No. PTF/CSR/88/Vol.111/733 of 31st August 1988 from the Chairman, Presidential Task Force on Civil Service Reforms.

Vision

Our vision is to become a model of excellence in public financial management, driving sustainable growth and prosperity for the people of Edo State. We also use automation to drive timeliness and efficiency in financial services, budgetary control, accountability and management of public funds and safeguarding of Government Assets.

Mission

Our mission is to uphold fiscal integrity, promote sound financial practices, and support the economic development of Edo State through prudent management of public funds. Also, we set the pace of inefficient service delivery and accountability using state-of-the-art technology.

Responsibilities

As stewards of public funds, we are responsible for safeguarding assets, maintaining accurate financial records, and ensuring compliance with statutory regulations and accounting standards.

What we do

Our core functions include budget preparation and execution, treasury management, internal auditing, financial reporting, and providing financial advisory services to government agencies and stakeholders.
