The Office of the Accountant General is an autonomous Department of the Ministry of Finance. It is the financial nerve centre of the State Government and serves as a servicing unit to all other Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs).

Office of The Accountant General of Edo State

Before 1989, the Office of the Accountant–General was the Accounting Division of the Ministry of Finance. But by Circular Letter No. SGA.13/87/Vol.VI/613 of 16th December 1988, the Office of the Accountant –General was created. This was in compliance with the directives conveyed in Letter No. PTF/CSR/88/Vol.111/733 of 31st August 1988 from the Chairman, Presidential Task Force on Civil Service Reforms. The Civil Service Reforms gave strength to the following Department under the Office of the Accountant-General:
