Departments

The Treasury Department is the custodian of the state’s financial resources, responsible for managing cash flow, liquidity, and investments to ensure the smooth operation of government finances. It oversees the receipt and disbursement of funds, monitors banking relationships, and manages the state’s investment portfolio to maximize returns while minimizing risk.

The Inspectorate Department plays a critical role in promoting accountability and transparency within the Office of the Accountant General. It conducts regular internal audits and risk assessments to evaluate the effectiveness of internal controls, identify potential areas of fraud or financial mismanagement, and recommend corrective actions to mitigate risks and improve operational efficiency.

The Personnel Department is responsible for managing the human resources of the Office of the Accountant General. It handles recruitment, training, and performance management processes for employees, ensuring compliance with employment laws and regulations. Additionally, it oversees payroll processing, benefits administration, and pension management for government workers, ensuring timely and accurate payments.

The Finance and Account Department is the backbone of financial management within the Office of the Accountant General. It maintains comprehensive financial records, prepares financial reports and statements, and ensures compliance with accounting standards and regulatory requirements. This department also provides financial analysis and support to inform decision-making and resource allocation processes.

The Planning, Research, and Statistics Department is responsible for conducting strategic planning, policy research, and data analysis to support evidence-based decision-making within the Office of the Accountant General and across government agencies. It collects and analyzes economic and financial data, prepares forecasts and projections, and provides insights to inform budget formulation, program evaluation, and policy development initiatives.

The Final Account Department is tasked with compiling and finalizing the state’s financial statements at the end of each fiscal period. It ensures the accuracy and completeness of financial reporting by reconciling accounts, verifying transactions, and preparing supporting documentation for external audits. This department also liaises with auditors to address any audit findings and recommendations.

The Management Account Department provides financial advisory services to support strategic decision-making and performance management within the Office of the Accountant General. It collaborates with department heads and program managers to develop budgets, track expenditures, and evaluate financial performance against established targets and benchmarks. This department also conducts financial analysis to identify cost-saving opportunities and improve operational efficiency.

The Expenditure Control Department is responsible for overseeing government spending and ensuring compliance with budgetary allocations, procurement regulations, and expenditure policies. It reviews expenditure requests, verifies the legality and propriety of transactions, and authorizes payments to vendors and service providers. Additionally, this department monitors expenditure trends, identifies budget variances, and recommends corrective actions to optimize resource utilization and promote fiscal discipline.
